For us, sustainability is not a separate project or a checklist of actions – it is simply the way we do things every day, in the Koto way. We want to offer our guests a warm, genuine and relaxing stay while taking care of the environment, people and our local community.
In practice, sustainability can be seen in many small and meaningful everyday choices. We use 100% renewable electricity, invest in energy-efficient solutions such as LED lighting, and reduce food waste by preparing breakfast according to the actual number of guests. We also make recycling easy for our guests during their stay.
We value seasonal ingredients and make many breakfast products ourselves – from porridges and jams to breads and sweet treats. We want every stay at Koto Hotel to feel authentic, local and unhurried.
For us, sustainability is also about people. We want every guest to feel welcome exactly as they are. Over the years, we have had the pleasure of welcoming guests from nearly 50 different nationalities.
Mental and physical safety are also important parts of responsibility for us. We want to provide an environment where both our guests and staff can feel safe, respected and at ease. Our public areas and hotel yard are covered by recording security cameras, and we intervene in situations involving threatening, disruptive or disrespectful behaviour. We believe that a good hotel experience is built on mutual respect and on creating a peaceful atmosphere where everyone can relax and feel accepted.
We believe that travel can have a positive impact – on nature, local communities and the traveller alike. That is why we continuously develop our operations to become more sustainable, one step at a time.
In recognition of our sustainability work, our company has been awarded the Green Key certificate. Green Key is an international tourism industry responsibility program whose criteria is based on the UN's sustainable development goals.
As a Green Key-certified company, we are committed to constantly developing our responsibility and reporting on it every year in connection with the renewal application. Compliance with the criteria is verified by regular, on-site audits. The certificate is issued by an external, independent Green Key jury.
